The Tone:
This is a full-time Hybrid role at Xometry, based in the US. Xometry powers the industries of today and tomorrow by connecting people with big ideas to manufacturers globally. This role is critical to the evolution of Thomasnet, a key part of Xometry, as it transitions from a traditional supplier directory to an AI-assisted sourcing platform. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build and maintain the foundational systems enabling this strategic shift, directly impacting daily experiences for buyers and suppliers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Technical Leadership: Provide hands-on technical leadership within the team by actively coding, contributing to thorough reviews, troubleshooting complex issues, and establishing robust coding patterns and design principles.
• Project Ownership: Take full ownership of the design and end-to-end delivery of features within your team, from initial problem definition to production deployment, including advanced AI-powered capabilities centered around LLMs, retrieval, and search, alongside necessary evaluations and guardrails for accuracy and safety.
• Mentorship & Review: Actively guide and mentor other engineers on the team, conducting thorough code reviews that elevate the standard for all engineering contributions.
• Operational Excellence: Ensure operational excellence by taking complete ownership of testing and reliability for all shipped software, consistently delivering solutions that meet customer expectations and adhere to business timelines.
• Strategic Contribution: Influence and help shape the team’s technical direction and strategy, moving beyond simply building to specific requirements and contributing to broader architectural decisions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior-level software development professional with over 6 years of experience, consistently focused on delivering tangible outcomes and proactively shaping team direction. You should have a habit of contributing beyond just building to spec, particularly in an industrial or marketplace product context.
• Experience: 6+ years of software development experience, with proven hands-on experience building AI-powered product features. This includes practical application of LLM applications, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector search, or advanced search relevance techniques, demonstrating an AI-native approach to development.
• Skills: Possess strong full-stack capabilities, transferable to a modern stack. This includes expertise in backend services utilizing TypeScript and Node.js with GraphQL APIs, a React and Next.js frontend, PostgreSQL databases, and search technologies like OpenSearch. You are a fast learner with high agency, fluent in an AI-native development environment, and possess strong execution, debugging, and communication skills, always prioritizing unit and integration testing.
• Bonus: Experience with multimodal (image and text) embeddings and search, familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, LangChain), and experience with fine-tuning or adapting models for a specific domain. E-commerce or marketplace product experience is also a significant plus.
