Transaction Tax Intern – Summer 2027 | DMA – DuCharme, McMillen & Associates, Inc.

In this intern position, you will play a supportive yet vital role, assisting Senior Tax Consultants and Tax Managers with core services such as Sales/Use tax overpayment reviews, audit reviews, and filing refunds, alongside other consulting projects. Your contributions will directly aid in delivering value to DMA’s clients by ensuring accurate tax processes and successful refund claims.

• Mission: Assist senior tax professionals in delivering sales/use tax overpayment and audit review services, and filing refunds for clients.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support Tax Reviews and Audits: Assist in the preparation of Sales/Use tax overpayment and audit reviews, including performing tax research and data analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Process Critical Documentation: Efficiently locate, examine, and scan relevant vendor invoices and other essential financial documents, then review and accurately enter data into systems, scheduling invoices and tax returns as required.
• Conduct Tax Research and Analysis: Proactively research complex tax questions and issues, applying findings to support ongoing consulting projects and resolve specific client inquiries.
• Manage Refund Claims and Vendor Relations: Facilitate refund processes by contacting vendors for follow-up and information requests, and assist in the comprehensive compilation of client reports and refund claims.
• Contribute to Consulting Projects: Provide support to Sr. Tax Consultants and Tax Managers on various consulting projects, including maintaining working knowledge of regional and local appraisal district processes and practices, and traveling to client locations as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level; pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or a related field, with completion of Intermediate Accounting required.
• Experience: Currently entering Junior or Senior year.
• Skills: Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; demonstrated problem-solving skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels.
• Bonus: Experience researching tax questions and issues preferred; ability to travel to client locations as needed and valid driver’s license.
