This is an in-person internship at HBK CPAs & Consultants, located in Youngstown, OH. HBK is a growing Top 50 accounting firm and a Top 100 registered investment advisory, built by hundreds of collaborating professionals who foster close client relationships. This role is crucial for our continued growth, as we seek dedicated professionals who want to excel in a career focused on helping small and mid-size businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and entrepreneurs. The internship provides a valuable, hands-on learning experience designed to enhance formal education and provide insight into the public accounting profession.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Full-time or Part-time (minimum 24 hours/week in-office for Spring busy season)
• Location: In-person – Youngstown, OH

• Mission: To provide a hands-on learning experience that deepens understanding of the public accounting profession and firm operations, while contributing timely, high-quality work products.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Analysis: Understand clients’ needs, expectations, business, industry, accounting and control systems, and relevant GAAP and GAAS issues.
• Audit Execution: Develop an understanding of the audit approach and tools, assess risks, and evaluate client internal control structures.
• Testing & Resolution: Perform analytics, substantive tests, and tests of internal controls to identify and resolve accounting or reporting issues.
• Reporting & Contribution: Draft financial statements and provide timely, high-quality work products as part of the team.
• Professional Development: Strengthen communication, analytical, and professional skills through hands-on experience on various audit projects, mirroring responsibilities of a first-year associate.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level candidate currently pursuing a major in accounting, at the sophomore or junior level.
• Experience: No specific prior work experience is required; however, relevant experience, leadership roles, and campus involvement are highly valued.
• Skills: Possesses excellent computer, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Bonus: A preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and an active interest in pursuing the CPA designation.
