Tax Intern | CBIZ

The Tone:
This is an internship at CBIZ, with an undisclosed location. CBIZ is an organization that offers comprehensive tax services to clients across various industries, including Real Estate, Construction, Healthcare, and Manufacturing. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in tax planning, return preparation, and compliance, directly contributing to the delivery of exceptional client service and strengthening professional relationships within the firm’s diverse client base.

• Mission: To support tax assignments by preparing and reviewing federal and state tax returns, developing tax compliance knowledge, and fostering strong client relationships.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Planning and Assignments: Gain a foundational understanding of tax planning and actively assist in various tax assignments across multiple industries, such as Real Estate, Construction, Healthcare, and Manufacturing.
• Tax Return Preparation: Prepare and accurately review federal and state tax returns for diverse entities including partnerships, C corporations, S corporations, and individual clients.
• Compliance and Auditing Support: Develop comprehensive tax compliance knowledge and provide assistance with IRS audits, manage responses to tax notices, and prepare trust, gift, and estate returns.
• Client Relationship Building: Participate in client assignments from their inception to completion, focusing on developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with all levels of client staff to enhance customer satisfaction.
• Professional Conduct: Uphold and comply with the highest degree of professional standards, ensure strict client confidentiality, and demonstrate exemplary personal conduct in all aspects of the role.

The Must-Haves
• Background: An entry-level candidate currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation, or a closely related field.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are required, though active participation in student organizations or prior work experience in accounting or a related field is considered a plus.
• Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, strong analytical and research capabilities, effective project management skills, demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, the capacity to multi-task, think independently, problem-solve in a team environment, and strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and intranet software.
• Bonus: A Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field is preferred.
