Corporate Accountant l | Nelnet

The Tone:
This is a hybrid Corporate Accountant I role at Nelnet, based out of their Lincoln, NE office. Nelnet is a diversified organization dedicated to enriching lives through various services, including student loan servicing, payments processing, renewable energy solutions, and K-12/higher education expertise. This role is crucial for applying accrual accounting principles to develop, analyze, and compile financial and operating data specifically for their multiple real estate joint venture companies, contributing to their ongoing success.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage financial transactions: Perform calculations, post journal entries, analyze, and report for various real estate joint venture companies, including preparing and maintaining account reconciliations.
• Prepare financial statements: Compile accurate quarterly GAAP-compliant financial statements, including statements of cash flows, for multiple real estate joint venture companies, maintaining relevant work papers and supporting documentation.
• Handle invoicing and inquiries: Prepare and distribute customer invoices while maintaining current customer demographics, and research/respond to inquiries from customers, suppliers, and internal Nelnet departments.
• Support accounting projects: Assist with various accounting projects, report on performance, document and follow through on recommendations, and ensure all internal and external financial reporting deadlines are met.
• Apply research findings: Apply the results of research to the real estate joint venture companies’ operations and specific transactions, working with external organizations and internal departments on initiatives and accounting issues.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
• Experience: 1+ years of accounting experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel with the ability to create documents using a variety of formulas and tools; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; in-depth understanding of complex accounting concepts and GAAP, including consolidation accounting; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; strong accountability for work, including timely completion of tasks and managing multiple assignments under deadline constraints.
