Intern Finance Specialist (SAP) – 2027 | IBM

The Tone:
This is a temporary internship at IBM, located in various IBM Consulting FutureNow Centers globally. IBM is a 344,185-person organization that delivers deep technical and industry expertise to public and private sector clients. This role matters as it helps clients solve real-world business challenges by applying finance and accounting knowledge, developing technology and consulting expertise, and modernizing financial processes with SAP. You will gain hands-on experience on client projects, learning how technology and AI improve business performance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support: Support finance, accounting, business, and technology teams in understanding financial processes, requirements, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
• Exposure: Gain exposure to SAP-enabled finance processes including financial accounting, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
• Analysis: Assist experienced team members with analyzing financial and business requirements and learning how they are translated into SAP-enabled solutions.
• Application: Apply finance and accounting knowledge to understand how transactions and business processes contribute to financial reporting, controls, analysis, and decision-making.
• Assistance: Assist with SAP testing, data validation, documentation, issue resolution, and solution implementation activities under the guidance of experienced team members.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration with a concentration in Finance or Accounting, or a closely related business field. MBA students with relevant coursework or experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Experience: Strong interest and foundational knowledge in finance and accounting concepts such as financial reporting, general accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cost management, or financial analysis, gained through coursework, academic projects, internships, or other practical learning opportunities. Prior SAP experience is not required.
• Skills: Ability to analyze information, identify trends or problems, and approach financial and business challenges using structured problem-solving. Basic understanding of how financial transactions and business processes contribute to financial reporting, analysis, controls, and business decision-making. Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates and communicate financial and business information in team environments. Interest in learning SAP, enterprise finance technologies, analytics, automation, and Artificial Intelligence.
• Bonus: Exposure to finance or accounting concepts through internships, academic projects, case competitions, research, student organizations, or practical learning experiences. Familiarity with financial analysis, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cost accounting, financial modeling, spreadsheets, business analytics, or process improvement. Familiarity with financial systems, ERP concepts, business intelligence, data visualization, or other business technologies. Exposure to SAP or other ERP platforms is welcomed but not required.
