Rotational Development Program Trainee (Electrical Power Systems) | Pacific Gas and Electric Company
The Tone:
This is a 12-month rotational program at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, located onsite in Fresno, with potential for assignments in other PG&E service territory locations. PG&E’s Engineering, Planning, and Strategy (EP&S) organization is dedicated to engineering the future grid by integrating renewable energy, traditional infrastructure, and advanced technology. This role is crucial for improving PG&E’s extensive network of electric transmission and distribution facilities, ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and affordable energy to customers. Participants will gain meaningful engineering experience across various essential departments.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Gain practical experience: Acquire meaningful engineering experience across various aspects of electric transmission and distribution facilities.
• Rotate through departments: Participate in up to two six-month rotations within Electric Engineering departments.
• Learn specific functions: Develop an in-depth understanding of engineering functions such as Distribution Asset Planning, Transmission Systems Planning, or System Protection.
• Contribute to success: Support departmental objectives and projects focused on improving PG&E’s electric grid.
• Engage in grid design: Work on designing all aspects of PG&E’s electric distribution and transmission grid.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university, received between May 2025 to July 2027. This is an entry-level role.
• Experience: Must have reliable transportation for work purposes; no specific years of prior experience are required for this program.
• Skills: Experience with Python and SQL.
• Bonus: Completed coursework in Electrical Engineering with a power emphasis (e.g., Power Systems, Analysis, Transmission Lines, System Protection/Substations); former PG&E internship experience; work experience or internships in utilities, the power industry, or other power-related fields; EIT Certification.
