Accounting Intern | Farmers & Merchants Bank of Long Beach

• Mission: Assists the Finance & Accounting Department with general accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, accounts payable, and office clerical functions to support the bank’s financial operations.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel
What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Assist with the design, preparation, and ongoing maintenance of detailed Excel spreadsheets, utilizing mathematical calculations to produce various essential accounting reports and supporting documentation.
• General Ledger Management: Perform monthly general ledger account certifications, preparing specific Excel spreadsheets to accurately summarize and balance general ledger activity for review.
• Budgeting and Analysis: Analyze historical financial activity to prepare detailed budgets for various general ledger accounts, and assist in the preparation of actual versus budget reports, providing explanations for any identified variances.
• Clerical and Operational Support: Execute general clerical responsibilities, including organized filing, document scanning, maintaining an accurate archive boxes inventory, and handling mailing tasks, contributing to efficient office operations.
• Departmental Project Assistance: Provide direct support to Finance & Accounting Department team members with additional tasks and special projects as assigned, which may include supporting budgeting system upgrades through testing and validation, and preparing the monthly department closing calendar.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level, High School Diploma or equivalent GED required. Foundational knowledge of general accounting principles.
• Experience: No specific prior experience required.
• Skills: Basic computer literacy with foundational knowledge of Microsoft Office, intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy.
• Bonus: Prior customer service experience preferred.
