This is a full-time Staff Accountant role for an international professional services firm, with a hybrid work schedule of three days in the Chicago office and two days remote. What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger Management: Prepare and maintain comprehensive general ledger account reconciliations, ensuring all financial records are accurate and up-to-date.
• Financial Close Assistance: Actively assist with the crucial monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and precise reporting.
• Transaction Processing & Compliance: Record various journal entries meticulously, and review and process both accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, always ensuring strict compliance with established accounting policies.
• Reporting & Analysis Support: Support the preparation of critical financial statements and management reports, and conduct thorough analysis of financial data to identify and investigate any account discrepancies.
• Audit & Process Improvement: Assist with external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements, while also participating in ongoing process improvement initiatives and special projects to enhance efficiency.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, demonstrating a strong foundational understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and fundamental accounting principles.
• Experience: Possess at least 1 year of progressive accounting experience. Preference is given to candidates who have gained this experience within a professional services firm, a public accounting environment, or a corporate setting, indicating exposure to relevant operational contexts.
• Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and various accounting software. Exhibit excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, coupled with strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Furthermore, effective verbal and written communication skills are essential for collaborating within the team and with external stakeholders.
