HR Leadership Development Program | MaineHealth
The Tone:
This is an early career development program at MaineHealth, with required in-person participation across Maine due to rotational assignments and potential relocation. MaineHealth is a large, integrated healthcare system supporting more than 26,000 care team members. This program is designed to accelerate the growth of exceptional early-career professionals into future HR leaders by building leadership capabilities, business acumen, and an enterprise perspective needed for influential roles.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Leadership Development: Develop leadership capabilities through challenging assignments, ongoing coaching, constructive feedback, and self-reflection.
• Rotational Assignments: Complete three HR departmental rotations, contributing to meaningful projects and business-critical work with visible organizational impact.
• Strategic Collaboration: Build influence and business partnership skills by collaborating with various HR teams and leaders across the MaineHealth system.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Develop relationships with care team members and leaders at all levels of the organization to foster effective partnerships.
• Continuous Growth: Demonstrate increasing ownership, initiative, judgment, and influence consistently throughout the three-year program duration.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree required, with a focus on an emerging leader motivated to grow into positions of increasing responsibility and influence within Human Resources.
• Experience: Previous Human Resources work preferred, including through internships, employment, research, or other applied experiences; demonstrated leadership experience through academic, professional, extracurricular, or community involvement; and experience working on team-based projects, initiatives, or organizations.
• Skills: High learning agility and adaptability in new and unfamiliar situations; strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills; excellent collaboration, communication, and relationship-building abilities; strong organizational, verbal, and written skills; high level of interpersonal skills necessary to deal with a wide variety of internal and external personnel; and ability to make presentations before groups.
• Bonus: Post-graduate Human Resources related program with a strong preference for a Master’s in HR or an MBA with HR concentration (GPA 3.5 or higher); strong interest in a long-term HR career within a complex, mission-driven healthcare organization; and willingness to travel and/or relocate throughout Maine during and after the program.
