Accountant | Town of Surfside

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Prepare and process journal entries to support the Town’s financial operations.
• Account Maintenance: Maintain the general ledger and perform regular reconciliation of bank and balance sheet accounts.
• Financial Support: Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, as well as budget preparation and monitoring.
• Reporting & Audits: Generate financial reports and provide support for audits and year-end closing activities.
• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper coding of expenditures, adherence to financial policies, and timely resolution of accounting inquiries.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with core domain knowledge in financial accounting, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, and financial reporting.
• Experience: Prior experience in municipal, governmental, or public-sector accounting is highly beneficial.
• Skills: Strong financial and accounting skills including general ledger maintenance and account reconciliation, budgeting and fiscal analysis, proficiency with accounting software and office tools, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Bonus: Professional certifications such as CPA or CGFO; knowledge of applicable financial regulations and internal control practices.
