Accounting Intern | Farbman Group

The Tone:
This is a part-time fall accounting internship at Farbman Group, located in our corporate office in Farmington Hills, MI. Farbman Group is seeking a dedicated college student to support its vital corporate accounting functions. This role is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on experience across various critical financial processes. The intern’s contributions are essential for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, assisting with key reconciliations, and supporting the overall efficiency of the accounting department as it manages complex financial data for the company’s operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Job Cost Accounting Assistance: Support the team by assisting with the accurate tracking and reconciliation of job-related costs to ensure projects remain within budget and are properly accounted for.
• Financial Reporting Support: Contribute to the preparation and review of various financial reports, aiding in the accurate presentation of the company’s financial performance.
• CAM Reconciliations: Assist in the annual process of reconciling Common Area Maintenance (CAM) charges, ensuring accuracy and compliance with lease agreements for properties managed by the group.
• Special Projects Contribution: Provide support on various ad-hoc accounting projects as they arise, allowing for exposure to different facets of the financial operations and contributing to broader team initiatives.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level college student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, demonstrating a solid foundational understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and theories learned through academic coursework.
• Experience: Practical academic experience in applying basic accounting concepts, coursework involving financial statement analysis or cost accounting, and exposure to business software applications relevant to accounting functions.
• Skills: Proven proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Excel for data organization, analysis, and financial calculations; strong familiarity with the broader Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Outlook, for professional communication and documentation; exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks; effective organizational abilities and strong time management skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently; clear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication skills for interacting with team members.
