VA024-2026 IT Solutions Developer (NOA) – Damascus | World Food Programme

The Tone:
This is a Fixed Term role at the World Food Programme, located in Damascus, Syria. The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives and building pathways to peace through food assistance. This role is crucial for designing, implementing, and operating integrated digital solutions that support WFP Syria’s beneficiary registration, programme delivery, and supply-chain operations, ensuring these systems are secure, interoperable, and aligned with WFP requirements for effective humanitarian assistance.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Fixed Term
• Location: In-person Damascus, Syria
• Mission: To lead and deliver secure, reliable, and integrated IT solutions that enable WFP Syria’s programme and operational objectives.
• Tech Stack: Python, Django, REST services, SQL/PostgreSQL, React-based interfaces, AWS services, Git, Azure DevOps, relational databases, serverless architectures, ETL/ELT.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Solution Design: Lead requirements analysis and solution design for digital transformation initiatives, translating operational and programme needs into technical specifications and implementation roadmaps.
• Application Development: Coordinate the development, enhancement, and lifecycle management of beneficiary registration, identity management, and assistance-delivery solutions.
• Cloud Operations: Administer and monitor authorized AWS environments supporting Country Office applications, covering infrastructure provisioning, deployments, databases, and cost optimization.
• DevOps & Integration: Establish and improve DevOps and software-delivery practices, including source control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and secure system-to-system integrations.
• Security & Governance: Apply cybersecurity, privacy, and compliance requirements across applications and cloud environments, supporting data governance and responsible data management.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Advanced university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Cloud Computing, or another relevant field.
• Experience: At least one (1) year of professional experience with a master’s degree, or three (3) years with a bachelor’s degree, in the design, development, integration, deployment, and support of business-critical IT solutions, with demonstrated experience in software development, relational databases, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and data integration.
• Skills: Strong knowledge in solution architecture, software development lifecycle, and technical project coordination; hands-on ability in Python/Django, REST APIs, SQL, and relational database design; practical knowledge of AWS cloud services, serverless architectures, identity and access management; experience with Git, CI/CD, and automated testing; sound understanding of cybersecurity, privacy, and technology governance.
• Bonus: Experience in humanitarian operations, digital assistance, social protection, or government-facing transformation initiatives.
