Model Validator, Market Surveillance | BNP Paribas

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at BNP Paribas, located in Montreal, Canada (Quebec). BNP Paribas is a leading international banking institution operating in 63 countries, fully committed to building a more sustainable future. This role is crucial within the RISK Independent Review & Control (RISK IRC) unit, providing a second line of defense for model risk management and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidance, contributing to the bank’s stability and integrity.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Location: Hybrid – Canada (Quebec)

• Team: RISK Independent Review & Control (RISK IRC) unit, reporting directly to the Group CRO.
• Mission: To perform independent effective challenge and quantitative reviews of models used within BNP Paribas, particularly for market surveillance, ensuring compliance with internal standards and regulatory guidance like SR26-2.
• Tech Stack: Python, R, SAS

What You’ll Actually Do
• Review: Conduct independent quantitative reviews of models used within BNP Paribas, adhering to internal standards and regulatory guidance.
• Assess: Conduct assessments of trade surveillance controls by sampling, providing overall ratings and analytics.
• Challenge: Provide effective challenge on the conceptual soundness, reasonableness of model output, implementation, and any other relevant modeling aspects impacting fit-for-use.
• Plan: Work with validation managers to develop appropriate validation plans that provide effective challenge commensurate with the level of model risk.
• Report: Prepare and present written information in a clear, concise, and grammatically correct manner to senior management, detailing risk assessments and concerns.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or any other related quantitative field. This role is for a senior professional.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in the development, testing, or implementation of scenarios related to trade surveillance compliance. Proven ability to produce high-quality written technical documentation for regulatory purposes.
• Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication and synthesis abilities, critical thinking capabilities, and a passion for learning. General knowledge of banking and broker-dealer regulations. Proficiency in the English language.
• Bonus: Knowledge of regulatory requirements (such as SR26-2, Basel), programming experience in statistical or mathematical languages like Python, R, or SAS, professional certifications such as CFA or FRM, audit experience, exposure to trading desks, electronic trading markets, and the securities industry, strong knowledge of US banking regulations (e.g., SEC, CFTC, FINRA, NYSE, CBOE, ISE, CME, NYMEX, ICE US), quantitative and statistical knowledge of AI and ML techniques (predictive modeling, statistical inference, probability, clustering), familiarity with US trading platforms (NTS), knowledge of financial products (Fixed income, Equity derivatives, commodities), familiarity with OCC/NYDFS standards or other similar global regulatory requirements, and professional working proficiency in French.
