Financial Reporting Intern – Summer 2027 | National Life Group

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Seasonal (10 weeks, June 1 – August 6)
• Location: In-person Montpelier, VT
• Pay: $19–$28 hourly
• Team: Financial Reporting team, interacting with Actuarial, Investment Accounting, Reinsurance, Treasury, Financial Planning & Analysis, and other accounting teams within the CFO organization.
• Mission: To gain hands-on experience in accounting and financial reporting, with exposure to both GAAP and statutory reporting, by assisting with the preparation, validation, analysis, and communication of financial information.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Workday (ERP systems)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assist: Help with GAAP and statutory financial reporting activities, including financial statement linking, tie-outs, reconciliations, validation, and supporting schedules, while also supporting the preparation and review of MD&A, audited financial statements, and other reporting materials.
• Complete: Handle assignments across multiple Financial Reporting areas, covering GAAP, statutory, state reporting, and other specialized reporting.
• Collaborate: Partner with Financial Reporting team members and cross-functional groups to understand their contributions to the overall reporting process.
• Participate: Engage in the monthly and quarterly financial reporting and close processes, gaining exposure to National Life Group’s transition to Workday and its impact on financial reporting.
• Develop: Work on an individual project incorporating accounting research, process improvement, technology or AI, or the application of academic concepts to a business or financial reporting topic.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Entry-Level career.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; demonstrated strong interest in accounting and financial reporting.
• Skills: High level of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail; strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments; clear and effective written and verbal communication skills; willingness to learn new tools, systems, and processes.
