Packaging Designer- Games | Mattel
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mattel, located in El Segundo, CA with a hybrid work model. This role is crucial because packaging serves as a powerful storytelling tool, sparking curiosity and emotional connections for iconic games like UNO and Pictionary. You will play a key part in shaping the visual identity of the world’s most recognizable games and entertainment brands, bringing products to life and delighting consumers across the globe.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Create packaging from initial concepts through final production for games brands and licensed properties.
• Storytelling: Develop compelling visual storytelling to strengthen brand identity and drive consumer engagement.
• Asset Creation: Produce packaging, product graphics, and digital assets for both retail and e-commerce platforms.
• Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Product Design, and Engineering to deliver cohesive creative solutions.
• Quality Assurance: Collaborate closely with global development teams to ensure design quality from concept through production.
• Art Direction: Guide illustration, retouching, and external creative partners.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Mid-level professional with a degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Visual Communication, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience in packaging, graphic, or consumer product design, demonstrated by an exceptional portfolio showcasing packaging and brand storytelling capabilities.
• Skills: Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign); experience with 3D visualization tools such as Adobe Dimension or Blender; strong understanding of typography, color, composition, and consumer-focused design; ability to balance creativity with production requirements and business objectives; excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
