Staff Accountant (Federal Audit) | Sikich

The Tone:
This is an early career auditing position at Sikich, available in Alexandria, VA, Columbus, OH, or Indianapolis, IN. This role is critical in conducting federal audits, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial reporting, and confirming the effectiveness of internal controls for clients. The successful candidate will contribute directly to client success and the firm’s growth in a collaborative environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Conduct testing to determine the accuracy and completeness of reported amounts and the operating effectiveness of internal controls.
• Prepare work products, including workpapers, findings, reports, and other written deliverables, in accordance with auditing standards and firm guidelines.
• Manage assigned work areas, executing tasks according to internal schedules to meet contractual deadlines after secondary review.
• Apply technology, including data analysis tools and AI, to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of audit procedures.
• Actively participate in formal and informal training to continuously grow technical and non-technical competencies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree, with an Accounting degree preferred, in this early career federal auditing role.
• Experience: Prior audit internship or work experience preferred; minimum Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain this clearance.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Bonus: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred; advanced degree preferred; ability to travel up to 25%; embodies absolute integrity and servant leadership with a bias for action and continuous innovation; sees opportunities in business challenges and can develop, articulate, and implement solutions; a relationship builder across all organizational levels and business units; instills trust by following through on commitments consistently and credibly; relentlessly focused on making a difference and can gain support for ideas, proposals, and solutions.
