Category Associate – New Grad Business Program | Whatnot
The Tone:
This is an early career role at Whatnot, located in New York City, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. Whatnot is the largest live shopping platform in North America and Europe, enabling sellers to build businesses across hundreds of categories, from trading cards to fashion. This role is built for individuals eager to learn how a fast-growing marketplace operates, not from the sidelines, but by owning real relationships and business outcomes from day one, directly shaping an entirely new industry.

• Pay: $81000–$90000 yearly
• Mission: Own a high-growth category on the Launch team to build foundational business skills and drive category expansion.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Category Expertise: Become the go-to expert on your category, understanding seller/buyer dynamics, community channels, influencers, and product nuances.
• Seller Acquisition: Source and reach out to sellers, leveraging social media, outbound channels, and in-person events to convince them to join and grow their business on Whatnot.
• Growth Partnerships: Partner with top sellers and strategic partners to build large businesses on Whatnot, executing seller growth plans to unlock category expansion.
• Marketing Strategy: Spearhead diverse marketing initiatives, such as influencer partnerships, to boost brand awareness and attract more buyers.
• Data Analysis: Use basic data analytics skills (SQL) to derive insights from projects, assess category growth, and enhance process efficiency.

• Background: Individuals graduating by Summer 2027, with a passion for Whatnot’s mission and a commitment to improving user experiences for their communities.
• Experience: Prior internship experience in a fast-paced, client-facing role, demonstrating a track record of working quickly and iteratively.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving and project management abilities, robust business acumen, deeply analytical thinking, and comfort with understanding and manipulating data to gain and act on business insights.
• Bonus: Excitement for building a broad toolkit before specializing, coupled with the scrappiness and flexibility to thrive in an ambiguous environment with limited guidance.
