Manager Trainee, January 2027 | J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time Manager Trainee role at J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., a prominent provider of transportation and logistics solutions. This position is crucial for developing future leaders who will learn to ensure the safe and timely movement of freight, manage driver operations, and deliver excellent customer service. The role focuses on learning foundational management principles to maintain operational efficiency and compliance within a dynamic transport environment.

• Mission: To learn to manage small driver counts and diverse shifts, ensuring safe freight movement and best-in-class customer service while maintaining DOT and company compliance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Freight & Route Optimization: Learn to assign loads, plan, route, and monitor the movement of freight to ensure safe, on-time service and compliance with customer requirements, proactively managing freight exceptions and adjusting driver ETAs based on real-time factors.
• Driver Management & Relations: Develop skills in personnel management, including training, orientation, and counseling of drivers and employees, while fostering positive relationships with drivers and outside carriers to enhance productivity and minimize turnover.
• Operational Performance & Financial Analysis: Become proficient in maximizing fleet operational efficiency and profitability by measuring key performance indicators, recommending continuous improvements, and creating detailed customer-specific reports and financial analyses, including P&L statements.
• Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Learn to uphold and enforce the Company’s safety culture through daily messages, regular briefings, and training, ensuring strict compliance with DOT regulations and all company safety requirements.
• Administrative & Equipment Oversight: Perform essential administrative duties such as payroll, managing the Net-Revenue budget, invoicing, and maintaining accurate documentation, alongside learning to manage yard operations, equipment inspection, minor repairs, and maintenance coordination.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field. This is an entry-level management training position.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, or account management if a Bachelor’s degree is not held, or equivalent military experience.
• Skills: Ability to effectively resolve conflicts, accurately analyze situations to make productive decisions, adapt to changing environments, establish and maintain healthy professional relationships, and effectively communicate ideas.
• Bonus: Experience managing a team, willingness to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends, and willingness to travel to various account, customer, and company event locations.
