Accountant I – Revenue | Esri

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Esri, located in Vienna, VA. Esri is a technology company committed to creating positive global change with GIS technology. This role is crucial for maintaining the financial integrity of the company by ensuring accurate revenue accounting, timely reconciliations, and compliance with GAAP. You will be responsible for monthly close activities, including the reconciliation of the company’s revenue accounts and contract review.

• Mission: Owns the accuracy and integrity of the company’s revenue accounting information through timely reconciliations, contract reviews, and compliance.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPS, pivot tables), SAP, other large ERP system

What You’ll Actually Do
• Ensure Compliance: Perform contract reviews and collaborate with Legal, Professional Services, and order processing teams to ensure compliance with GAAP and company revenue and contracting policies.
• Record Entries: Prepare and record general ledger entries by compiling and analyzing account, operational, and other information.
• Reconcile Transactions: Conduct monthly reconciliations by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions, and resolving discrepancies.
• Support Close Processes: Support month and year-end close process and assist with the annual audit.
• Communicate Results: Analyze and communicate periodic results to Accounting management.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field with a Certificate in Accounting; US citizenship required.
• Experience: 1 year of experience in public accounting or a similar position, with experience in general ledger functions and month and year-end close processes.
• Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (including VLOOKUPS and pivot tables), working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), high attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize demands and meet deadlines, familiarity with accounting financial statements, ability to work independently, and analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Bonus: Experience with Revenue Accounting guidance, international entities and foreign currency, SAP or other large ERP system, or a current or actively working to obtain a CPA license.
