Intern, Tax – Scottsdale, AZ | Mariner
The Tone:
This is an internship at Mariner, located in Scottsdale, AZ, with dates from January 13 to April 15, 2027. This role provides hands-on learning through real client work, allowing interns to develop foundational knowledge of tax planning and compliance. The Intern, Tax will be an integral part of the team, assisting in servicing high net worth individuals with a focus on personal, fiduciary, S-Corporation, partnership, private foundation, and gift tax returns. Eligible candidates must be able to work 5 days / 40 hours per week throughout the entirety of the internship.

• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, specialized tax planning and preparation software.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Return Assistance: Assist experienced tax professionals with the preparation of various tax returns, income tax projects, estimated tax vouchers, and extension forms.
• Client Information Management: Organize and maintain client tax files and electronic records, while also assisting with administrative tasks such as gathering billing information and client service needs.
• Document Accuracy Review: Prepare supporting schedules, reconcile client information, and meticulously review tax documents for completeness and accuracy prior to preparation and filing.
• Tax Law Research: Conduct basic tax research and assist in gathering information related to inquiries from taxing authorities and changes in tax laws and regulations.
• Team Collaboration & Learning: Participate in training sessions, associate meetings, and professional development opportunities, collaborating with tax and wealth advisory teams to gain exposure to integrated tax and financial planning concepts.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an entry-level internship for candidates currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, with an expected graduation date within 24 months of the internship’s start date (January 13, 2027).
• Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience, evidenced through either prior work experience or active participation in extracurricular activities.
• Skills: Strong numerical aptitude for accurate calculations; Foundational understanding of accounting or tax principles; Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion with sensitive client information; Strong organizational and time management skills to meet multiple deadlines; Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain findings; Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Bonus: Pursuing a degree specifically in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is preferred; A willingness to learn and adapt to specialized tax planning and preparation software is also a significant advantage.
