The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mercy Housing, located in Denver, CO with a hybrid schedule requiring one day per week in-office. As a Staff Accountant I, this role is crucial for managing full-cycle accounting and ensuring the accuracy and reasonableness of financial statements, narratives, and supporting schedules for assigned reporting entities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile bank accounts accurately and in a timely manner, paying attention to unusual outstanding items at month end.
• Perform research on historical accounting transactions and reconcile differences between A/P or A/R modules and the G/L module.
• Prepare periodic financial statements and related reports as directed by the Accounting Manager, meeting assigned time limits and accuracy standards.
• Create relevant and current explanations of financial statements in a narrative format for any financial statements released to users.
• Perform reporting required by outside agencies and assist in the preparation of budgets and schedules for annual audits.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Experience: 1-2 years of accounting experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in spreadsheet and computerized accounting applications; ability to understand and implement directives; self-initiative to problem-solve and prioritize work.
• Bonus: Experience in public or industry accounting; Bachelor’s degree specifically in accounting.
