The Tone:
This is an intern/co-op position at Marathon Petroleum Corporation, an energy industry leader with opportunities available in Findlay, OH; San Antonio, TX; Denver, CO; and various refinery locations. This role is crucial for gaining on-the-job training in the petroleum industry’s dynamics, specific job assignments, and software programs. Interns will contribute to various accounting functions, developing collaborative relationships across departments. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)
• Location: In-person: Findlay, OH; San Antonio, TX; Denver, CO; various refinery locations.
• Pay: $21.63 – $27.04 hourly
• Mission: To receive comprehensive on-the-job training related to the petroleum industry, specific job assignments, and the use of various software programs within an accounting role.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analyze and process various business documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Conduct accounting and financial data analysis to prepare proper financial statement journal entries.
• Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and assist with the preparation of tax information.
• Test SOX and Non-SOX controls during auditing activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Support budget preparation and cultivate collaborative relationships by interfacing with various departments outside the Controller’s Organization.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree (or higher) seeking program for the duration of the experience, with a required major in Accounting. This is an entry-level intern position.
• Experience: Demonstrated strong academic performance. Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Skills: Proficiency in financial analysis and data processing. Capability in general ledger management and account reconciliation. Understanding of financial statement preparation principles. Familiarity with SOX and Non-SOX control testing. Ability to assist with tax information preparation.
• Bonus: Military experience is a plus.
