Mutual Fund Accountant Intern – Summer 2027 | Thrivent

The TL;DR

• Team: Fund Accounting Operations department
• Mission: Responsible for the daily accounting activity associated with pricing mutual funds and variable products.
• Tech Stack: MS Office tools, including PowerPoint and Excel
What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare cash activity and projections for portfolio managers, research and verify corporate behaviors, verify daily interest, dividend, and expense accruals, and post security trade and shareholder activity.
• Audit, resolve, and approve daily net asset value/unit value calculations of funds to ensure accurate reporting.
• Prepare monthly reconciliation work papers and ad hoc reports as needed.
• Ensure activity between the custodian and accounting system reconciles and correct any discrepancies.
• Assist in the preparation of materials for external auditors.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level, currently a Junior (Dec. 2027 or May 2028 graduation date) pursuing an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
• Experience: A history of excellent academic performance (GPA 3.0+).
• Skills: Skilled in MS Office tools (PowerPoint and Excel), knowledge and understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task and deal with tight deadlines in a team environment, detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills, and strong oral and written communication skills.
