The Tone:
This is an on-site, full-time role at New Relic, located in Hyderabad. New Relic builds an intelligent platform that provides unparalleled insight into complex systems, helping companies thrive in an AI-first world. This role is crucial for leading design efforts on Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and Log Management, two of the platform’s most used and high-stakes products, directly impacting engineers when critical issues arise.

• Team: Manages a small design team, owning design quality across APM and Logs within the broader design organization.
• Mission: Own the quality of design work for Application Performance Monitoring and Log Management, ensuring user needs drive product development.
• Tech Stack: Figma AI, Claude, Gemini, Cursor, v0, Replit

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage and develop your designers: Run consistent 1:1s, provide direct feedback, set clear expectations, and invest in their career growth while fostering an inclusive team culture.
• Own design quality: Critically review design work for APM and Logs, identify problems early, and ensure the team solves the right problems with high craft.
• Advocate for users: Bring user needs and research insights into product and engineering roadmap discussions.
• Partner effectively: Work as a peer with product and engineering counterparts, holding the design perspective and communicating design’s value in terms of business outcomes.
• Contribute IC design work: Roll up your sleeves and directly contribute to design problems when the team requires your hands-on experience.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Manager with 8+ years of product design experience, focusing on technically complex B2B or enterprise software with data-dense interfaces and technical users.
• Experience: 2–4 years of direct people management, including running 1:1s, giving feedback, and developing designers. Experience working across time zones and with async communication is required.
• Skills: A clear design point of view with the confidence to evaluate work and hold a position; strong written and verbal communication in English; a portfolio demonstrating design process and problem-solving.
• Bonus: Experience with APM, log management, observability, or similar developer-facing infrastructure products; familiarity with design systems; experience hiring and growing a design team; hands-on curiosity with AI tools; comfort prototyping with code or code-adjacent tools.
