Intern/Co-op – Accounting (Summer 2027) | Marathon Petroleum Corporation
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Marathon Petroleum Corporation, primarily located in Findlay, Ohio, with opportunities in other locations. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Full-time (40 hours/week)
• Location: In-person, Primarily Findlay, Ohio, with opportunities in San Antonio, Denver, Canton, Catlettsburg, Robinson, Texas City, and Wilmington, based on assignment.
• Pay: $21.63–$27.04 hourly
• Team: Controller’s Organization, within specific accounting areas like Operations, Refinery, Tax, or Audit.
• Mission: This person will contribute to the financial operations of Marathon Petroleum by analyzing data, preparing accounting documents, and supporting critical financial controls.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Analysis: Analyze and process various business documents to support financial operations.
• Data Analysis and Entry: Conduct analysis of accounting and financial data to prepare proper financial statement journal entries.
• Account Reconciliation: Prepare general ledger account reconcilements to ensure accuracy of financial records.
• Compliance and Budget Support: Assist in the preparation of tax information and contribute to budget preparation.
• Auditing Controls: Participate in testing SOX and Non-SOX controls as part of auditing procedures.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Concurrent enrollment in a bachelor’s degree (or higher) seeking program for the duration of the experience. Required Major: Accounting, but other business majors may be considered.
• Experience: Candidates must demonstrate strong academic performance. Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Skills: Ability to analyze business documents and financial data, prepare accounting entries, and manage reconciliations. Must be able to provide reliable transportation to and from the place of work.
• Bonus: Military experience is a plus.
