Assurance Intern – Winter 2027 | RSM US LLP

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: Client locations (travel required)
• Pay: $36–$43 hourly
• Mission: Understand client businesses and perform audit functions to identify and resolve accounting or reporting issues, contributing to instilling confidence in their operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Understanding: Comprehend clients’ business, industry, accounting systems, and internal controls to grasp their needs and expectations, applying knowledge of GAAP and GAAS issues.
• Audit Approach: Develop a working understanding of RSM’s specific audit methodology and proprietary tools to effectively support engagement execution.
• Risk Assessment: Evaluate clients’ internal control structures and assess associated risks to inform the scope and procedures of audit engagements.
• Issue Resolution: Conduct substantive tests and internal control tests to identify, analyze, and resolve accounting or reporting discrepancies encountered during the audit process.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare initial drafts of financial statements, ensuring adherence to prescribed formats and relevant accounting standards.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an entry-level internship for students pursuing a B.A. / B.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited university, specifically majoring in Accounting.
• Experience: Candidates must have completed 90 credit hours towards their degree. While no specific prior work experience is required, the role involves direct client interaction within audit engagements.
• Skills: The role requires the ability to travel to assigned client locations and arrange for reliable transportation. A foundational understanding of GAAP and GAAS issues is also necessary.
• Bonus: A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred for successful candidates.
