The Tone:
This is an early-career accounting role located in Huntsville, AL or Houston, TX, within KBR Careers, specifically supporting the Mission Technology Solutions business which is transitioning to become Trinzic, an independent public company. This position is critical during a pivotal period of growth and transformation, contributing to the establishment and support of accounting, financial reporting, and operational processes. The role helps position the company for long-term success while serving important government and commercial missions globally. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accountant looking to expand their experience in general ledger accounting and financial close processes within a growing business.
The TL;DR

• Team: Works within the finance organization, collaborating across finance teams.
• Mission: This person will be responsible for preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and supporting month-end close activities to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis functions), Deltek Costpoint, Cognos, FCCS
What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries in accordance with company accounting policies.
• Account Reconciliation: Complete monthly account reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Financial Close Support: Assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring deadlines are met with accuracy and completeness, and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
• Audit & Compliance: Support internal and external audit requests by providing documentation and information, and ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and increase efficiency through technology and automation tools, including Excel.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
• Experience: 1-3 years of hands-on accounting experience including journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities.
• Skills: Strong understanding of general accounting principles and US GAAP; proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis functions); strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail; effective communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Cognos, FCCS, or similar ERP and financial reporting systems; experience supporting accounting operations within a government contracting environment; familiarity with FAR, DFARS, CAS regulations; experience working within established internal controls and identifying process improvements.
