The Tone:
This is an early-career role at KBR Careers, located in Huntsville, AL or Houston, TX. KBR is establishing Trinzic as an independent public company through the planned separation of its Mission Technology Solutions business. This role offers a unique chance to join during a significant period of growth and transformation. The Accountant will play a crucial part in building and supporting accounting, financial reporting, and operational processes essential for the company’s long-term success, as it serves critical government and commercial missions globally.

The TL;DR

• Location: In-person Huntsville, AL or Houston, TX
• Team: Part of the finance organization, collaborating with finance teams across the MTS organization.
• Mission: Primarily responsible for preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and supporting month-end close activities.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Deltek Costpoint, Cognos, FCCS, ERP, US GAAP, FAR, DFARS, CAS.

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger Management: Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries in accordance with company accounting policies.
• Account Reconciliation: Prepare and complete monthly account reconciliations, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Financial Close Support: Assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring deadlines are met with accuracy and completeness.
• Compliance and Integrity: Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger in accordance with company accounting policies and US GAAP.
• Process Improvement & Audit: Support compliance with internal controls, assist with internal and external audit requests, and identify opportunities for accounting process improvements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with equivalent work experience considered; a strong foundation in general accounting principles and US GAAP is required.
• Experience: 1-3 years of accounting experience with hands-on responsibility for journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis functions; strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail; effective communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Cognos, FCCS, or similar ERP and financial reporting systems; experience supporting accounting operations within a government contracting environment; familiarity with FAR, DFARS, and CAS regulations; experience identifying process improvements and leveraging technology or automation tools.
