Insurance Portfolio Manager | New York Life Insurance Company

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at New York Life Insurance Company, located in New York, USA (Hybrid – 4 days per week). New York Life leads portfolio strategy and capital allocation for its $340+ billion General Account, upholding the company’s financial strength and policyholder commitments. This role is crucial as it involves managing the end-to-end investment process for the General Account, a significant portfolio that underpins long-term promises and guarantees to policy owners. The position requires ensuring each portfolio is optimally positioned against its unique liability profile while delivering consistent risk-adjusted outcomes.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Hybrid – 4 days per week
• Location: Hybrid – New York, USA
• Pay: $140000–$195000 yearly
• Team: General Account Portfolio Management (GAPM) team within the Office of the Chief Investment Officer (OCIO)
• Mission: Serve as the strategic partner for the insurance businesses and asset management teams in managing the end-to-end investment process for the General Account.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Partner: Serve as the primary investment point of contact and thought partner for the insurance businesses, translating business objectives into actionable investment strategy and recommendations.
• Strategize: Lead the development of investment strategies and long-term strategic asset allocation targets for product portfolios to enhance product pricing and support new business growth objectives.
• Manage: Partner with the GAPM team to manage asset liability management positioning for responsible product lines.
• Enhance: Develop strategies to enhance the financial performance of the existing investment portfolio while improving risk resiliency.
• Lead: Lead the quarterly business asset liability committee meetings with business unit executives and finance leaders, providing strategic investment insights, updates, and recommendations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or similar field, with deep knowledge of insurance assets and liabilities, including capital markets experience.
• Experience: 10+ years professional experience in the insurance or asset intensive financial services industry, including presenting investment recommendations and portfolio strategy to executive leadership.
• Skills: Proven leadership abilities, strong executive presence and communication skills, ability to think outside the box, ability to work independently as a thought leader, and ability to create effective partnerships throughout the organization.
• Bonus: Industry credentials (e.g. CFA, FSA etc.) and/or an advanced degree.
