Accountant, Staff-Ex | Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots

The Tone:
This is an early career accounting role at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, located in New Orleans, LA. As America’s second oldest horse racing track, Fair Grounds stands as a premiere entertainment venue, offering thoroughbred and exotic animal races, alongside slot machines, video poker, and year-round simulcasting. The company also operates 13 off-track betting parlors across southeast Louisiana. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of financial records, assisting with the preparation of critical financial reports, and ensuring compliance with all accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Your contributions will directly support the organization’s financial health and provide essential data for informed decision-making.

• Mission: Assist in the preparation of financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit & loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entry Management: Prepares various journal series for accurate and timely input into the General Ledger and other accounting sub-systems.
• Financial Reporting Support: Assists in the preparation of comprehensive financial statements and management reports, providing crucial insights to support informed decision-making across the organization.
• Data Analysis & Reconciliation: Ensures accurate financial reporting by analyzing and evaluating accounting and operational data, promptly reconciling accounts, and making necessary adjustments in a timely manner.
• Compliance & Regulatory Reporting: Supports all compliance and reporting cycles by assisting with the preparation of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
• Tax Compliance: Manages essential tax compliance tasks, which includes preparing and filing required forms with federal, state, and local agencies, and collaborating effectively with regulators and stakeholders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, suitable for an Entry-Level career stage.
• Experience: At least one year of experience in Accounting or Finance.
• Skills: General Ledger management, financial statement and management report preparation, accounting data analysis, account reconciliation, compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, and tax form preparation and filing.
• Bonus: Must be 21 years or older, able to obtain a racing license through the Louisiana Racing Commission, able to obtain a gaming license, and possess a valid driver’s license.
