Staff Accountant | AMH
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at AMH, a company that has significantly grown since 2012 to become a leading single-family rental provider and homebuilder in the country. This Staff Accountant I position is integral to the finance department, focusing on general accounting functions that support the entire monthly accounting cycle. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and adherence to deadlines, ensuring the financial integrity and confidentiality of company operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Monthly Accounting Cycle Management: Prepare monthly journal entries, perform detailed analyses, and complete account reconciliations. These actions are crucial to ensure the accurate and timely closure of each monthly fiscal period, encompassing various expense accounts, revenue, accounts receivable, fixed assets, liabilities, and accruals.
• Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Prepare comprehensive monthly reconciliations for all assigned balance sheet accounts, ensuring each balance is fully supported with appropriate documentation.
• Compliance and Reporting: Consistently achieve established processing and reporting deadlines, which is essential for maintaining financial compliance and supporting timely business decisions.
• Information Confidentiality: Strictly safeguard all privileged and/or proprietary financial and operational information to uphold the highest standards of confidentiality.
• Financial Information Support: Assist business unit management by providing accurate and timely financial information as needed, supporting their operational and strategic requests.
• Audit Facilitation: Provide essential support for both annual internal and external audits, which includes preparing detailed audit schedules and meticulously cross-checking financial statements and footnotes for accuracy.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, along with a demonstrated understanding of accounting principles.
• Experience: Prior experience in accounting or a related field is preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required, alongside excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, planning, and analysis skills. Strong relationship management, organizing, and customer service skills are also essential. Candidates are expected to meet multiple deadlines, maintain confidentiality, implement process improvement changes, pay close attention to details, and adapt to a changing environment.
• Bonus: Experience with Yardi Voyager, familiarity with accounting software or sub-ledger, and an understanding of ledger accounts are all preferred.
