Intern, Accounting | New York Islanders
The Tone:
This is a seasonal accounting internship with the New York Islanders, located in Floral Park, NY, requiring 1-2 days per week in the office. The Islanders are an Original, Authentic, Vibrant, and Attainable sports franchise with an iconic legacy, built on a dynasty of four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and now play at the state-of-the-art UBS Arena. This world-class venue, built for hockey and made for music, is part of a larger redevelopment at Belmont Park, transforming the area into a vibrant entertainment destination. This role offers valuable hands-on experience within a renowned professional sports organization, supporting core accounting and finance functions across multiple entities including the Islanders Hockey Club, Islanders Iceworks, and the Children’s Foundation. The intern’s contributions are vital in maintaining the financial operations of an organization dedicated to its passionate fan base and its quest for further championships.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile: Prepare accurate balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure financial precision.
• Analyze: Analyze diverse financial data with meticulous attention to detail.
• Research: Research and compile budget and forecasting data to inform financial planning.
• Verify: Verify the accuracy of journal entries and all financial documentation.
• Manage: Handle sensitive financial information and documentation with utmost discretion.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college program studying Accounting and/or Finance.
• Experience: No prior accounting experience is required; however, proficiency with basic computer programs is necessary and a demonstrated readiness to learn.
• Skills: Excellent writing skills, research skills, Microsoft Office skills.
• Bonus: Awareness of and interest in the latest accounting guidance, pronouncements and emerging trends shaping professional sports.
