Staff Accountant | Myers & Stauffer

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Myers & Stauffer, a certified public accounting and health and human services consulting firm. The company specializes in audit, accounting, data management, and consulting services for government-sponsored health care programs, primarily state Medicaid agencies and the federal Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. With over 900 associates nationwide across 21 offices, Myers & Stauffer assists government clients with complex health care reimbursement and provider compliance issues. This Staff Accountant role is crucial for supporting these state and federal government health and human service clients, ultimately focusing on those in need by ensuring compliance and proper reimbursement within critical healthcare programs.

• Mission: This role ensures billing and reimbursement compliance with Medicaid and other government program regulations through audits and financial analysis, supporting effective government-sponsored healthcare programs.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, etc.)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Cost Report Review: Perform reviews of Medicaid provider cost reports and analyze health care provider financial information.
• Audit Execution: Conduct all phases of the audit process, including planning, research, risk assessment, fieldwork, and reporting of findings, adhering to Medicaid or other government program regulations and AICPA standards.
• Documentation & Reporting: Prepare written documents supporting professional decisions and generate working papers to document the scope and findings of audits.
• Regulatory Compliance: Conduct research to determine billing and reimbursement compliance with relevant Medicaid or other government program regulations, and review applicable Federal and State policies.
• Data Security & Management: Maintain security and confidentiality of all protected health information when analyzing material, and ensure thorough electronic documentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, suitable for an early career professional.
• Experience: Internship or equivalent working experience in accounting or a related field; experience with health care auditing and data analysis is preferred.
• Skills:
• Ability to analyze data and solve problems effectively, coupled with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate findings and professional decisions clearly.
• Capacity to review statutory/regulatory and other policy language, then accurately apply these requirements to audit procedures.
• Proficient use of applicable technology, specifically Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel and Word.
• Bonus:
• Advanced education, such as a Master’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• Professional certification like a CPA or actively pursuing CPA candidacy.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task, manage multiple deadlines, and prioritize assignments with efficiency and planning.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel based on client and business needs.
