Staff Accountant | Skift
The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at Skift, located in the greater New York tri-state area, requiring a commute into Manhattan at least twice per month. Skift is a leading business intelligence and media company in travel, delivering news, research, and global events that power smarter industry decisions. This position is critical to the finance function, serving as the backbone for a lean, remote team operating across 17+ countries. The role demands a proactive builder who actively identifies inefficiencies, leverages AI for smarter workflows, and maintains a high standard of excellence in all financial operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Daily Operations: Manage cash flow, prepare payment runs, handle AR/AP reports, and post routine journal entries, ensuring smooth daily financial operations.
• Month-End Close: Execute the end-to-end month-end close checklist, prepare detailed P&L and balance sheets with variance analysis, and perform all necessary reconciliations.
• Annual Compliance: Coordinate the annual budget cycle, support external audits, and prepare annual financial statements and year-end tax filings in partnership with external advisors.
• Process Improvement: Identify manual finance workflows and proactively build and implement upgrades through automation and integration of AI tools.
• Financial Communication: Communicate financial information clearly to non-finance audiences and manage budget-versus-actual discussions with department heads.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required.
• Experience: 2+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for a full monthly close cycle.
• Skills: Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, advanced Excel, fluency with payment platforms (Stripe, Braintree, Emburse, Wise), active use of AI tools in daily workflow, and proactive communication abilities.
• Bonus: Deep comfort operating in a multi-entity, multi-currency, global payroll environment, with experience using PEO/EOR platforms like Questco or Multiplier.
