ACCOUNTANT 1 | State of Tennessee

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the State of Tennessee, located in Nashville, TN, offering a hybrid work arrangement. What You’ll Actually Do
• Monitor: Monitor federal and third-party grant and program funds to ensure accurate fund results and compliance.
• Audit: Audit basic invoices, billings, and tax-related accounting documents for adherence to departmental policies, contract terms, and federal/state regulations.
• Analyze: Analyze general ledger transactions and external customer account documentation to verify accurate recording and appropriate application of funds.
• Process: Perform basic reconciliations of general ledger accounts, prepare financial activity reports, process accounts payable transactions, enter accounting journal entries, and prepare sales tax returns.
• Manage: Manage long-term projects to ensure timely completion of milestones and prioritize daily tasks to meet deadlines efficiently.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level professional with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree including thirty-six quarter hours in accounting is accepted.
• Experience: Entry-level professional accounting experience. This position is part of a flexibly staffed class, requiring successful completion of a mandatory one-year training period to progress to the next level.
• Skills: Strong understanding of Economics and Accounting principles, proficient Mathematical skills, clerical proficiency, effective Reading Comprehension, and solid Time Management abilities.
