Assurance Intern – Summer 2027 | BDO USA
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at BDO USA, located in San Diego. BDO is a professional services firm that provides assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and globally. As an Assurance Intern, you will be part of an entrepreneurial environment, utilizing your academic foundation and organizational skills to support a diverse client base. This role is crucial for gaining practical, hands-on experience, understanding the firm’s practices, and beginning to build professional relationships essential for a successful career in accounting.
The TL;DR

• Mission: This role supports the Assurance practice by assisting with problem-solving and fact-finding to help clients grow with confidence.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
What You’ll Actually Do
• Training: Learn and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) through a structured on-the-job training program.
• Audit Support: Assist with various stages of the audit process by becoming familiar with and applying BDO’s specific audit methodology.
• Client Communication: Provide essential support functions to the audit staff during engagement, including direct communication with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties concerning audit issues.
• Documentation: Prepare and meticulously document work in working papers, utilizing BDO’s specific tools and templates to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Research & Collaboration: Complete one assigned accounting or audit-related research project, developing findings and presenting them to a panel of Assurance professionals, while also contributing ideas and listening to team members’ views.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting and actively pursuing school credits required to become a CPA.
• Experience: Entry-level role, no prior professional experience specified as required.
• Skills: Required proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to follow instructions as directed; and the capability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include pursuing a Master’s degree in Accounting, having prior leadership experience, and demonstrating a positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
