Accounting/Audit Intern – Summer 2027 | Kiewit

The Tone:
This is an internship at Kiewit, located in Omaha, NE. Kiewit is a construction and engineering organization that builds iconic projects across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, improving and connecting communities. This role offers a hands-on learning experience directly related to the skills needed in a full-time Accounting or Audit career. As an intern, you will develop, participate, and learn key functions within the Financial Accounting and Audit Departments, making a real impact on Kiewit’s business goals.

• Mission: This intern will develop key financial accounting and audit skills to support Kiewit’s business goals and project success through hands-on responsibilities.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook

What You’ll Actually Do
• Workpaper Preparation: Prepare workpapers for wholly owned entities, subsidiary financial statements (including footnotes), and Joint Venture financial results.
• Audit Performance: Perform internal financial, operational, compliance, and strategic audits to assess business processes.
• Control Evaluation: Review and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls to ensure adherence to standards.
• Financial Communication: Prepare and distribute Joint Venture financial results, while establishing trust and communicating effectively with field personnel and construction partners.
• Process Improvement: Support and participate in collaborative activities aimed at promoting and implementing process improvements within the departments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business. Possess an understanding of U.S. GAAP, U.S. GAAS, and controls framework.
• Experience: Successful completion of Intermediate Financial Accounting and Introduction to Tax coursework.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Programs including Office, Excel, and Outlook; knowledge of basic accounting functions and journal entries; effective communication; excellent analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; good attention to detail.
• Bonus: Prior work experience with using multiple technology systems is preferred.
