Audit Accounting Intern | Mauldin & Jenkins

• Mission: Assist senior staff members in the conduct of assignments involving audits, management services, or preparation of tax returns for clients.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Internal Controls: Study, evaluate, and test the compliance of internal accounting controls.
• Financial Statements: Prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Reconciliations: Examine client reconciliations of bank accounts and subsidiary accounts, investigating any discrepancies.
• Accruals & Prepaids: Schedule computations of accruals, document their underlying support, and prepare schedules for write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
• Tax Preparation: Review data input, identify and resolve technical tax issues, assist in tax preparation reviews, and research various tax issues for senior staff members, ensuring deadlines are met.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level, currently pursuing a college degree with a major or concentration in accounting.
• Experience: Must provide own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship; no specific years of experience are required.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, professional appearance in attitude, dress, poise, and conduct, consistent accuracy in dealing with numeric and alphabetic information, proficiency in using available resources like firm manuals and computer software, foundational understanding or eagerness to learn generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), and federal/state income tax laws, and an awareness of current developments in the accounting profession.
• Bonus: Overnight travel may be necessary.
