Staff Accountant | Dairy Management Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Dairy Management Inc., located in the greater Chicagoland area with required in-office days. Dairy Management Inc. is a nonprofit organization funded by America’s nearly 28,000 dairy farmers and importers, dedicated to increasing sales and demand for dairy products. This role supports the Finance and Accounting Department by ensuring smooth financial close processes and accurate general ledger operations, directly contributing to the organization’s mission of promoting sustainable nutrition and the goodness of dairy. • Team: Reports to the VP Finance / Assistant Controller.
• Mission: This person ensures accurate financial reporting and smooth execution of the financial close process for DMI Client Companies.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Account Accuracy: Ensure that account balances are accurate by analyzing account activity and preparing monthly reconciliations.
• Month-End Close: Assist in month-end close activities, which include journal entries, reclassifications, and allocations.
• Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reporting within assigned companies.
• Audit Support: Assist in compiling items related to the annual external audit.
• Process Improvement: Work on ad hoc projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s operations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• Experience: 0-3 years of general ledger accounting experience.
• Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), excellent verbal and written communication skills, organized, detail-oriented, ability to work independently, and a team-oriented focus.
• Bonus: CPA or CPA candidate, non-for-profit experience, and a continuous improvement mindset.
