Staff Accountant | Capital Technology Group

The Tone:
This is a hybrid full-time Staff Accountant role at Capital Technology Group, located in Silver Spring, Maryland, requiring residency in the Washington, DC area. Capital Technology Group provides expert consulting services in software development, digital transformation, human-centered design, data analytics and visualization, and cybersecurity for federal and commercial clients. This role is crucial for supporting the Controller and the overall accounting function, handling day-to-day financial operations, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant will contribute directly to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the company’s continuous growth.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable: Monitor the Accounting inbox, then review, process, and accurately enter all Accounts Payable (AP) transactions.
• Accounts Receivable: Prepare, review, and submit Accounts Receivable (AR) invoices to customers, ensuring compliance with contract and billing requirements.
• Process Documentation: Create, update, and maintain Accounting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and effective accounting processes.
• Subcontractor Review: Review subcontractor labor hours and supporting documentation, communicating with subcontractors and internal personnel to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• General Accounting Support: Support the Controller with general accounting activities, financial reporting, and other accounting-related projects as assigned.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Degree in Accounting or a related field. This is an early-career position open to recent graduates.
• Experience: Professional accounting experience is a plus, but the company seeks capable, curious, organized, and eager individuals.
• Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; keen attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies; self-starter with sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and business acumen; ability to work independently while also comfortable asking questions and learning new processes.
• Bonus: Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, and basic data analysis; internship or prior work experience in an accounting or finance role; interest in developing knowledge of government contracting.
