Accounting Analyst – UHealth Accounting | University of Miami
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the University of Miami, within the UHealth system’s Finance Department. The UHealth-University of Miami Health System, South Florida’s only university-based health system, delivers leading-edge patient care powered by groundbreaking research and medical education. This Accounting Analyst role is critical for the periodic financial reporting activities, analyzing financial activities, preparing financial reports, auditing requests, and generating ad-hoc reports to support strategic decision-making within the UHealth system.

• Team: The UHealth Accounting Analyst supports the Accounting team within UHealth Finance, with a primary focus on Miller School of Medicine (MSOM)-related month-end close responsibilities.
• Mission: This role is responsible for supporting comprehensive financial reporting, streamlining month-end close activities, and contributing to cross-training initiatives within the accounting team to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Tech Stack: Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, filtering, sorting), general ledger systems, report writing capabilities.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Month-End Close: Prepare, review, and accurately submit assigned journal entries and accruals, ensuring all month-end accounting deliverables are met by established deadlines.
• Account Reconciliation: Develop and prepare monthly balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations for assigned accounts, departments, projects, or worktags, and actively assist with follow-up on reconciling items as needed.
• Financial Reporting Support: Contribute to the preparation of financial reporting deliverables on a periodic, quarterly, and annual basis, and assist in compiling necessary schedules and documentation for fiscal year-end close.
• Financial Analysis: Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis on a broad array of issues, including preparing monthly variance analyses for assigned accounts, researching, and explaining significant fluctuations.
• Data Management and Coordination: Extract, review, and interpret financial data, coordinating with internal departments and business partners to obtain supporting documentation, clarify transaction activity, and follow up on missing information for close.
• Documentation and Compliance: Define and document policy and procedures to meet established accounting and company standards, maintaining organized working files and clear support for audit requests.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred, coupled with a strong understanding of general ledger accounting principles, accruals, reconciliations, and comprehensive month-end close processes.
• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required, with a preference for prior experience specifically involving month-end close processes, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Skills: Intermediate Excel proficiency, including the effective use of pivot tables, lookups, formulas, filtering, and sorting; demonstrated ability to review financial information, identify discrepancies, and research transaction activity; strong and clear written and verbal communication skills; keen attention to detail for maintaining accurate accounting records; and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while meeting established deadlines.
• Bonus: Prior experience within healthcare, an academic medical center, or not-for-profit environments is a plus; a willingness to learn new processes, systems, and accounting concepts; and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, supporting cross-training initiatives.
