Head of Ad Sales, The Hill | Nexstar Media Group
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Nexstar Media Group, located in Washington, D.C. Nexstar Media Group operates The Hill, a leading source of political and policy news, delivering vital information to highly influential audiences. This role is crucial for defining and driving the advertising sales strategy, ensuring significant revenue growth and expanding The Hill’s commercial footprint across various platforms. The executive will serve as a prominent commercial leader, strengthening The Hill’s market position and value proposition to marketers.

• Pay: $325000–$375000 yearly
• Mission: Lead The Hill’s advertising sales strategy to accelerate revenue growth, expand the advertiser base, and create new commercial opportunities across its portfolio.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Sales Strategy & Growth: Develop and execute comprehensive advertising sales strategies designed to accelerate revenue growth, increase market share, and diversify the client base.
• Marketplace Leadership: Serve as a highly visible external representative, clearly articulating and evangelizing The Hill’s value proposition, influential audience, and differentiated capabilities.
• Client Development: Generate new business and deepen existing partnerships by utilizing and expanding an established network of senior relationships across clients, agencies, and key D.C. constituents.
• Direct Revenue Generation: Actively participate in the sales process, personally developing and closing high-value strategic partnerships.
• Commercial Evolution: Define and continuously evolve The Hill’s commercial positioning, sales narratives, packaging, pricing strategies, and marketplace approach across all advertising products and platforms.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field. Executive-level experience leading and growing a significant media, digital, or publishing advertising business.
• Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive advertising sales and management experience with a demonstrated track record of delivering revenue growth. Established and deep relationships with senior clients, agencies, and key constituents throughout the Washington, D.C. marketplace and national advertising ecosystem.
• Skills: Strong digital advertising expertise, including video, branded content, sponsorships, events, and audience targeting. Exceptional executive presence and communication skills to serve as a compelling marketplace spokesperson. Deep understanding of Washington, D.C.’s political, policy, advocacy, and government affairs ecosystem. Proven ability to personally negotiate and close large-scale advertising opportunities. Experience leading, developing, and motivating high-performing sales teams.
• Bonus: MBA or comparable advanced business experience.
