CAS Accountant | Illumination Accounting & Consulting

The Tone:
This is a fully remote role at Illumination Accounting & Consulting, serving clients in the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area. Illumination Accounting & Consulting is a Twin Cities-based Client Advisory Services (CAS) firm that functions as the outsourced accounting department for small to mid-sized businesses, primarily focusing on the real estate and construction sectors, alongside a general CAS portfolio. This position is crucial for delivering accurate bookkeeping, accounting, controller, and fractional CFO advisory services, helping clients make better business decisions. The firm fosters a collaborative, high-performing team environment that moves quickly, values continuous improvement, and supports accounting professionals in growing alongside the company.

• Team: Works under the guidance of a Senior Accountant or Manager.
• Mission: Owns the hands-on coding and day-to-day execution of accounting tasks for a portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate books and serving as a direct point of contact for accounting questions.
• Tech Stack: QBO, Bill.com, Ramp, Karbon, Yardi, Procore, NetSuite, Acumatica, Sage.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of client engagements, which includes the day-to-day coding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll transactions, and comprehensive bank reconciliations.
• Client Interaction: Serve as a direct client point of contact, engaging with business owners to answer day-to-day accounting questions, ask clarifying questions, and flag issues as they arise.
• Financial Reporting & Close: Complete all necessary monthly close tasks and accurately prepare financial reporting packages for review by a Senior Accountant or Manager.
• Specialized Industry Support: Maintain job cost tracking, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, and manage draw reconciliations for assigned construction clients, and support multi-entity accounting, including intercompany reconciliations and property-level reporting for real estate clients.
• Operational Efficiency: Accurately code and classify transactions across various client systems, identify discrepancies, unusual activity, or process breakdowns, and actively contribute to workflow improvement and AI-driven efficiency initiatives.
• Client Onboarding & Cleanup: Assist with client onboarding processes and execute bookkeeping cleanup projects as needed to ensure smooth transitions and accurate starting points.

The Must-Haves
• Background: 3-5 years of accrual accounting experience, demonstrating proficiency in full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and coding.
• Experience: Comfortable communicating directly with clients on daily accounting matters and proficient in QuickBooks Online across multiple client entities.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, a commitment to accurate and organized work, and the ability to manage multiple client files and deadlines effectively with general oversight.
• Bonus: Real estate or property-level accounting experience (multi-entity, intercompany reconciliations), construction accounting experience (job costing, WIP concepts), familiarity with industry platforms (Yardi, Procore), CAS tools (Karbon, Bill.com, Ramp), mid-market ERP systems (NetSuite, Acumatica, Sage), genuine curiosity about AI/automation, or active pursuit of CPA or EA licensure.
