Compliance Analyst – Mutual Funds | Neuberger Berman

The Tone:
This is a full-time hybrid role at Neuberger Berman, located in New York, USA. Neuberger Berman is a private, independent, employee-owned investment manager that offers a range of investment products, including mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). This position is crucial for maintaining regulatory adherence and supporting the Chief Compliance Officer in ensuring all registered fund activities align with federal securities laws, safeguarding the firm’s integrity and investor trust. The role focuses on comprehensive compliance oversight and program administration for the firm’s diverse registered fund offerings.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Compliance Support: Provide support on general compliance matters and projects related to the registered funds business, including surveillance activities for employee emails, investment guideline alerts, and various fund policies under Rule 38a-1 and Rule 206(4)-7 programs.
• Fund Oversight: Assist with various compliance matters and oversight for mutual funds, ETFs, and registered closed-end funds, including support for the launch of new registered funds.
• Reporting & Communication: Assist the Chief Compliance Officer – Registered Funds in preparing board reports and communications, including monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance checklists and documentation for proprietary and sub-advised funds.
• Program Administration: Aid in the administration of compliance programs adopted under Rule 38a-1 of the Investment Company Act and Rule 206(4)-7 of the Investment Advisers Act, including program implementation, quarterly/annual assessments, and report preparation.
• Internal Resource: Serve as a dedicated resource on compliance matters for various internal fund support areas, such as Fund Administration, Shareholder Servicing, Risk, Guideline Oversight/Business Control, and Legal.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with 1-3 years of compliance experience related to federal securities laws, preferably within investment management.
• Experience: 1-3 years of compliance experience related to federal securities laws. Experience working with and preparing materials for Boards of Directors or senior management. Experience with portfolio management systems or compliance monitoring systems for account activity.
• Skills: Demonstrated analytical ability, strong written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of staff including senior management. Must be detail-oriented and familiar with regulatory requirements for registered funds, including ETFs.
• Bonus: A graduate degree. SEC regulatory, consulting, or other asset management experience within financial services. Familiarity with alternative investment products and co-investment regulations. Experience working within a firm with diverse businesses (e.g., broker-dealer, investment adviser, investment companies). Knowledge of compliance tools such as Aladdin, Perform, or similar systems. Ability to interact with internal and external clients and service providers effectively.
