This Director position is critical for providing strategic direction, ensuring operational excellence, and managing the financial health of assigned hospital-based service departments. What You’ll Actually Do
• Operational Leadership: Direct the daily operations of assigned hospital-based service departments, consistently working to achieve organizational, operational, quality, and patient experience goals for the Medical University of South Carolina.
• Team Development & Culture: Lead managers, coordinators, and professional staff within the departments, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement to enhance workforce engagement.
• Financial Stewardship: Develop and direct departmental operating and capital budgets, ensuring responsible fiscal management, optimizing resource utilization, and analyzing financial performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
• Strategic Implementation: Develop, implement, and continuously monitor operational and strategic initiatives that are aligned with the broader organizational objectives and drive improvements in efficiency, productivity, and service delivery.
• Cross-functional Collaboration & Compliance: Collaborate effectively across clinical and operational areas, partnering with physicians, nursing leadership, finance, human resources, and support services to standardize workflows, optimize processes, improve patient outcomes, and ensure full compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field, serving in a Director-level capacity focused on healthcare operational leadership.
• Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible healthcare operational experience is required, which must include a minimum of two (2) years in a direct management role overseeing healthcare teams or departments.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability in data-driven decision-making, comprehensive fiscal management, analytical skills for operational and financial performance, development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures, and leadership in project implementation for service enhancement. Also crucial are capabilities in building strong organizational relationships and ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance.
• Bonus: A Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or a related advanced field is preferred for this role.
