Staff Accountant (On Site Bethesda, MD) | CareTalk Health

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at CareTalk Health, located in Bethesda, MD. CareTalk Health is a virtual medical practice that specializes in Clinical Process Outsourcing (CPO), partnering with healthcare organizations to build and manage patient and member populations. This Staff Accountant position is an early-career opportunity that offers hands-on exposure to healthcare finance and accounting operations. The role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close processes, and contributing to the company’s financial integrity, with direct mentorship from an experienced CFO.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Daily Accounting Operations: Review and process daily financial transactions imported into QuickBooks Online, ensuring all accounting records are accurate, complete, and properly categorized while maintaining organized financial documentation.
• Cash Management & Deposits: Scan and deposit paper checks received in the office, verifying deposit accuracy and maintaining supporting documentation, and assist with cash receipt tracking and reconciliation.
• General Ledger Support: Prepare and post journal entries in QuickBooks Online, assisting with the integrity of the general ledger and supporting all month-end and year-end close activities.
• Account Reconciliations: Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts using QuickBooks Online, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly, and maintaining supporting schedules and reconciliation documentation.
• Financial Reporting & Analysis: Maintain Excel-based schedules supporting general ledger activity, including prepaid expense amortization schedules, generate recurring financial and operational reports from QuickBooks Online, and assist with financial analysis and reporting requests.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting concepts.
• Experience: No current professional experience necessary, making this suitable as a first job. Prior internship, academic project, or professional experience in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping is preferred.
• Skills: Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including working with large datasets; excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Interest in pursuing CPA certification within the next 1–3 years; experience with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Enterprise; prior exposure to account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, or month-end close activities; previous healthcare or professional services industry experience.
