Spring 2027 Outsourced Accounting Internship | BerryDunn — Assurance, Tax and Consulting

The Tone:
This is an internship at BerryDunn, located in Portland, ME; Bangor, ME; Manchester, NH; or Waltham, MA, with a hybrid work option. BerryDunn is a professional services firm that provides tax, advisory, consulting, and attest services to businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies across the US. This role is crucial for developing a strong foundation in outsourced accounting, offering hands-on experience with diverse client assignments and projects across various industries.

• Team: Works closely with experienced staff, seniors, managers, and principals in charge of engagements.
• Mission: To gain hands-on experience managing a variety of client outsourced accounting assignments, including financial statement preparation, general ledger processing, and month/quarter-end closing procedures.
• Tech Stack: QuickBooks, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Statement Engagements: Perform attestation work, including compilation and preparation of financial statement engagements, ensuring adherence to professional standards.
• Month-End and Quarter-End Closes: Execute comprehensive month-end and quarter-end closing procedures for multiple client engagements, which includes managing prepaids, accruals, depreciation, and other GAAP accounting adjustments.
• GAAP Accounting and Work Papers: Assist the professional team in preparing GAAP work papers and trial balances, applying basic GAAP accounting principles and progressing to more complex scenarios with guidance.
• Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process accounts payables for multiple clients, producing reports and checks upon approval, and manage accounts receivables including processing and recording deposits.
• Cash Management: Record all bank and credit card transactional activity within QuickBooks, perform regular bank reconciliations, and actively monitor client cash balances.
• Team Collaboration & Development: Work effectively as a team member to complete various project components and assignment tasks, while actively pursuing self-development in line with the firm’s competency model.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a BA/BS degree program, with a preference for studies in Accounting. This role is suitable for entry-level candidates embarking on their professional journey.
• Experience: Must be available to work a minimum of 24 hours per week during the internship period and be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship.
• Skills: Possess strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, the ability to effectively multi-task and manage ongoing assignments, strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and superior verbal and written communication abilities.
