The Tone:
This is a full-time role at SanMar, located in Issaquah, WA, operating on a hybrid work schedule. The Accountant position is integral to the company’s financial stability, ensuring that all financial consolidation, reporting, and internal control processes are meticulously managed. This role directly contributes to the accuracy and timeliness of SanMar’s financial data, making a significant impact on overall business operations and decision-making.

• Mission: Support SanMar’s financial consolidation, reporting, internal controls, intercompany processes, payments, and monthly reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate financial data.

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger Management: Maintain and meticulously reconcile general ledger accounts, providing essential support to the Controller in the preparation of monthly and quarterly consolidated financial statements.
• Financial Close Process: Actively contribute to the comprehensive month-end close process, ensuring that financial data is timely, accurate, and fully compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal accounting policies.
• Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and meticulously audit various financial reports, conducting thorough fact checks, resolving any discrepancies, and gathering and analyzing detailed financial information to support business insights.
• Audit Support and Reporting: Assist extensively with the year-end external audit, providing necessary documentation and explanations, while also producing scheduled financial reports and fulfilling ad hoc reporting requests as needed.
• Operational Finance Support: Independently record transactions, update the general ledger, perform account reconciliations, and assist with issue escalation and resolution related to internal control, intercompany transactions, and payment processes.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or a closely related field, demonstrating foundational knowledge for this early career role.
• Experience: Requires 1-3 years of practical experience specifically in financial reporting and internal controls, building a solid base for the responsibilities outlined.
• Skills: Essential skills include advanced proficiency in spreadsheet data manipulation and creation, a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), exceptional attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication abilities, and the capacity to work independently as a self-starter, balancing multiple projects and processes simultaneously. This also encompasses thoughtful decision-making, sound problem-solving, and efficient time and project management skills.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include prior experience in public accounting or in an environment requiring quick adaptation and multiple priorities, along with the commitment to obtain a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification within 1 year of employment.
