Director, Competitive Intelligence | New Relic
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at New Relic, located remotely. This role is crucial for owning the competitive intelligence program, translating market insights into actionable strategies that sharpen positioning, accelerate win rates, and inform product and go-to-market decisions, keeping the company ahead in the observability market.
The TL;DR

• Pay: $180000–$225000 yearly
• Mission: Own and scale New Relic’s global competitive intelligence program, transforming market analysis into strategic intelligence for GTM and product.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Program Ownership: Lead New Relic’s global competitive intelligence program from strategy through execution, encompassing competitor tracking, battlecards, and competitive playbooks.
• Knowledge Base: Develop and maintain in-depth, technically accurate coverage of key observability, monitoring, and AIOps competitors, including product architecture, pricing, and market positioning.
• Performance Analysis: Oversee the ongoing competitive win/loss program, conducting interviews and translating insights into actionable recommendations for Sales and Product leadership.
• Strategic Guidance: Partner cross-functionally as a strategic advisor to Product Management, Product Marketing, Sales, and Analyst Relations, translating competitive intelligence into differentiated messaging across New Relic’s platform.
• Technology Advancement: Continuously work on the CI tech stack, scaling AI-enabled CI workflows and automation, and integrating with Salesforce, Slack, and other enablement platforms.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline required (or equivalent hands-on technical experience); Director-level role in competitive intelligence.
• Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in competitive intelligence, with a strong preference for observability, monitoring, AIOps, DevOps, or infrastructure/cloud software; 4+ years in people management; 4+ years of experience building and running a CI program and platform at scale.
• Skills: Sufficient technical depth to credibly evaluate observability and AIOps (APM, distributed tracing, telemetry/OpenTelemetry, infrastructure and Kubernetes observability); Deep understanding of the observability, monitoring, and AIOps competitive landscape; Strong analytical rigor using market intelligence tools; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: MBA or advanced degree; Experience designing or deploying AI/agentic workflows for CI or GTM enablement (e.g., AI agents, MCP servers); Hands-on familiarity with Anthropic, Vertex/Gemini APIs and others.
